Making Women Visible And Powerful In The Media Women's Media Center

What Does C-B-S Stand For?

CBS recently announced it would air an anti-choice ad during the Super Bowl, paid for by the notoriously intolerant and divisive organization Focus on the Family. Given that Super Bowl ads from organizations such as MoveOn, PETA, United Church of Christ, and others have been rejected by CBS in the past for being too controversial, this decision raises serious questions about CBS’s policies and bias – and leads us to this question: What Does CBS Stand For?

Where are the women’s groups when conservative women like Michelle Bachman are being attacked? Do you only represent a certain segment of women? I would really like to see your group get behind issues that all women can support. You do realize that not all women support abortions. Right?

The Defintion of Choice from dictionary.com
    1. an act or instance of choosing; selection.
    2. the right, power, or opportunity to choose; option.
    3. the person or thing chosen or eligible to be chosen.
    4. an alternative:
    5. an abundance or variety from which to choose.
What does this all mean? To have “choice” means that there is more than one option. Pro-choice, Progressives, whatever you call yourselves; you are no better than Anti-Abortionist if you don’t advocate a woman and man to see all sides of a story. This woman, Tim Tebow’s mother, made a choice. It was not the choice I assume most of you advocate. Fortunately, we still do have freedom in this country, but don’t take away someones freedom of speech just to try and preserve your freedom to choose. It would seem to me that you would advocate this commercial since it shows a woman who made a choice and you should respect the choice she made.

I agree and sympathize with anyone who cannot make a decision to do something they wish today because someone thinks they know better then the person needing to make the decision. In life the decisions you make teach you how to be a better person and if someone is trying to take that from you they are treading on your personal rights.

I’m confused. Seems Mrs Tebow is a feature in the ad….therefore promoting women in the media. And, she exercised her right to choise. She happened to choose not to abort her unborn child , and the result was a star football player…thereby relating to the football game. What is negatiave about this message?

I am confused. Super Bowl ads will more than likely include (1) sex enhancing
drugs, (2) men running around semi-nude in their underwear, and (3) lots of
beer drinking to name a few. If you believe that these social issues are not
in the least controversial to most Americans, then you may have a point. Otherwise
I just do not see your point. At least Tim Tebow is a great role model. Explain.

If you don’t like the ad or find fault with the “message”, fine. But why call for censorship? Because you diagree?

How is this sexism? Mrs. Tebow is a woman who made her own choice. I applaud CBS and am grateful there will be at least one commercial I am not uncomfortable about watching with my kids. I think we should all spend more time focusing on our families.

CBS stands for a network that is being decimated by cable TV and diminishing revenues due to cable and the economy. They haven’t changed anything except who they will accept money from in order to stay relevant. They are whores at best, but I can’t fault them for that.

I agree with all of you, and I’m pro-choice and have been since the original Roe v Wade decision was passed. What the faux Focus on Family is doing is paying for a pro-choice ad. Ms. Tebow was given a choice, which is all those that aren’t anti-abortion are asking. The fact she chose to have Tim does not and should not be taken as an anti-abortion stance, though faux Focus on Family would like us to believe it is.

What I think WMC, NOW, the Feminist Majority Foundation and other pro-choice groups should do is to create and have CBS run an ad pointing out what I mentioned above regarding faux Focus on Family’s ad actually being a pro-choice ad.

I would think a women’s media center would be much more concerned about the negative portrayal of women in all of the beer commercials and “GoDaddy.com” ads – lets force CBS to not be able to air this trash into our living rooms during the SuperBowl.

The problem with CBS ad is that it shows only one side of an issue. What about the woman that refused to terminate the pregnancy and both she and the baby died? Why not have them in an ad? And what about the one where the baby was born, the mother lived too but the child was largely abandoned and/or abused and grew up to be a murder and perhaps killed a famous football player?

The real problem I have with the ad is that it only shows one side of a many-sided situation. We need not to just have the success stories so we can feel good, but rather the entire picture so we can react with some reality. Life is not generally a Disney World trip … it’s more difficult than that.

I think CBS stands for COWARDS- BIGOTS and SEXISTS who are going down the hypocrite trail to compete with cable. Focus on The Fascists is so stupid it does not see it’s own hypocrisy. Running an ad during a sports program with a musician who was caught with child pornography-Promoting sex outside of marriage by scantily clad cheerleaders and lets don’t forget the explicit use of women as sex objects in all the beer commercials- promoting illicit sex and alcohol abuse any way you want to color it that is what Focus on the Fascists stands for by airing this ad during the SUPERBALL! Which should be the appropriate name for this over hyped waste of time!
