Phone It In: Fight Stupak With “One Voice for Choice”

You’ve signed petitions, written letters to Senators, stayed informed, and probably shouted at your television once or twice. Maybe you even took on Congress yesterday with Stop Stupak’s National Day of Action. But we all know the fight isn’t over — especially since Senators Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) plan to introduce an amendment nearly identical to Stupak.

Time for the next great push! Once Voice for Choice is a phone-banking initiative from FireDogLake Action PAC that targets pro-choice Democratic voters in the districts of representatives who voted for Stupak. Voters are given information about the amendment’s real consequences, and asked to sign a letter to their Congress members. Hat-tip to Amanda Marcotte for the heads up on this innovative campaign.

FireDogLake’s Jane Hamsher explains their strategy:

…we looked at the landscape, we analyzed what needed to be done, and isolated the way we could use the resources we were capable of leveraging in the most closely targeted and specific way to have the biggest impact.

In a battle like this, it’s crucial to reach those who can actually impact Congress. Sign up to volunteer, and donate to sustain the cause. The fight for reproductive freedom is far from over.
