As a counterpoint to Martin Bashir’s sexist and demeaning comments about Asian women, I strongly recommend a visit to the National Women’s History Museum’s newest CyberExhibit entitled “Chinese American Women: A History of Resilience and Resistance” at http://www.nwhm.org. This online exhibit portrays how Chinese American women demonstrated great courage in breaking down barriers to live a better life in this country. The exhibit inspires the visitor with stories of great toils, strife, and bravery including how one woman, Yoke Leen, marched into her county courthouse in 1910 and documented herself as a free woman so no man could lay claim to her. I suspect Yoke Leen would have put Bashir in his place for his objectifying remark! This exhibit was launched on August 1st at the annual convention of the Organization of Chinese Americans..
